The Last Days According To Jesus - Famines and earthquakes (Mt 24:7)
"...and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes."
As we return to our series on the signs of the End Times according to Jesus, we see an admonition by our Lord that reveals to us the atmosphere that will prevail in that day. In the Book of The Revelation, there comes a time when God will sit on His throne with a book in His hand. That book is sealed with seven seals.
The Lamb will take that book and begin to open those seals one by one. As the first two seals are unleashed, conquest and war will fall upon the earth. The opening of the third seal will result in a world-wide shortage of food where even the most extraordinary prices will not be enough to buy food.
The fourth seal tells us how that will end.
“I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.”
The Pale Horse will nearly extinguish the human race. One fourth of the earth will perish. They say that the Mongol hordes of Genghis Khan annihilated 15% of the earth’s population as he swept across the earth. The famine of the Apocalypse will make that seem small in comparison.
Pestilence? Famine? Swords? That sounds a lot like the evening news of our day, doesn’t it? I think we all learned over the past few years just how easy it will be to bring everything on this planet to a grinding halt. We did not see the apocalypse but we learned how it will happen.
Next on the list? Earthquakes in the news. That’s the sixth seal but it’s next on the list for Jesus.
