IMAGE - 20 Amazing Bible Words To Know: (eikon) - Part 3
You carry in you the image of God. He created you with that in mind. You are designed to represent Him just as an image represents an original form or a being. So, why don’t you look like Him? Why don’t you act like Him? Why don’t people see Him in you?
In John 14, Jesus pointed out to His disciples that the way to see God in us is through Jesus Himself.
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”
The way to know God is by knowing Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is the image of God. Colossians 1:15, calls Him the “Image of the Invisible God.” Hebrews 1:3 refers to Him as “The Exact Representation of His Being.” 2 Corinthians 4:4 refers to “…the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
Remember the idea, in part 1 of this message, that an image is like a reflection on a lake? Think of the image of God like that for a minute. When people see you, they see God’s image, as a reflection, but something has happened. The image is distorted and misshapen. Sin has broken that image.
It’s like when the lake water is choppy and unsettled. You can’t really see that reflection clearly any more. It’s there but it’s hard to see and it no longer looks like the original. Sin is like the wind and the waves. It hides and distorts God’s image in you.
Jesus, however, came and He took all of that away. He died to take away your sins. Suddenly, the lake becomes still again, the water calms and the reflection becomes clear and beautiful once more. The Image of God lives in you and restores you to God.
Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
