WORK - 20 Amazing Bible Words To Know: (ERGON)
The idea of work is found throughout the Bible. The Greeks used the word “ergon” to describe work, or labor.
Some people think that hard work is the worst thing that could happen to them. That’s not a very biblical way of looking at work.
God designed us to enjoy work. One of the very first things that we learn about ourselves is that God had a purpose in mind for us when we were created. That purpose includes the idea of work. Here is how Moses put it:
Genesis 2:15
“Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.”
“Cultivating and keeping” is work. It is what we were designed to do. Have you ever finished a good days work and then stood back at the end of the day to take in what you have accomplished? That is an extremely satisfying thing to do.
We find meaning in doing that because that’s how we are designed. God made us in His image.
When God finished His work, by that I mean creation, He looked back on all that He had done and He said, “That is good”.
That response is built into you and is in your DNA. That’s why it is so fulfilling to complete a task and appreciate what we have done.
The next time you have a job in front of you that needs to be tackled, think of it like this; working hard to do something, completing it and appreciating it is the quality that God has given you that is most like Him.
He made you that way. Don’t despise work but do it for God.
Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”
