Psalms 1:4 - “The Wicked Will Not Stand”

A funny thing happens when we talk about heaven. I hear it all the time. In fact, I find myself saying it, too. We talk about some day standing in the presence of God. Do you see the problem with that statement?

The Bible has something to say about that. In fact, there are three instances of men standing in the presence of the glorified Christ when they were suddenly aware of Him. Here’s what happened:

Ezekiel 1:28
“Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face.”

Daniel 8:17-18
“So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face … while he was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground.”

Revelation 1:17
“When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man.“

Those men were standing upright when they suddenly dropped flat on their faces in the presence of the Lord. Those aren’t just any men. They are Ezekiel, Daniel and the Apostle John. How, then, can we expect to stand in the presence of God? That is exactly the question asked by King David.
