Psalms 1:5 - “In The Assembly of the Righteous” (Part 3)

Here is a news flash for you: the righteous assemble. Yes, that’s right. Those who have their minds set on God get together once in a while.
This is not a new thing. In fact, it is an undeniable fact that the people of God are called to gather together for the purpose of worship. This happens in the New Testament, in the time of the prophets, in the time of David, in the time of Moses … all the way back for thousands of years. It has always been a thing.
So, why is it that people still insist that they can be a follower of God but they don’t have to go to church? That flies in the face of everything the Bible teaches. From Genesis to Revelation, the people of God assemble together to meet with God.
Might I suggest a possible reason? I think, perhaps, it is because the ungodly know that they are out of place in the assembly of the righteous. So, let me just say something here. Read this:
Romans 3:10
“THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE.”
We are all in the same boat. No one measures up to the perfect standard that God requires to stand before Him. I once had a woman drop her mother off at our church but she wouldn’t come in with her. She stood on the threshold of the front door and was petrified of the thought of coming inside. She told me that I didn’t know the type of woman she was.
I told her that there is nobody in this building who is better than her. We are all sinners trying to figure out life. The only difference is that we have made peace with God and accepted His forgiveness of us.
That woman came back one day and the last time I saw her, before she moved away, she was sitting in our church singing Christmas songs with us.
The ungodly will not stand in the assembly of the righteous. But they can kneel with the rest of us. After all, that’s why we gather, isn’t it? To bow before our Father in Heaven, proclaiming His worthiness, acknowledging our absolute need for His mercy and grace.
