Psalms 1:6 - “The LORD Knows The Way”

Psalms 1:6 - “The LORD knows the way”

When we say the the Lord knows us, we mean that He knows us. I mean, He really knows us. You should find that unsettling. Just think about that for a minute. Think about what it means that the One who created you knows every detail of your life. Here’s how Daniel saw that:

Daniel 2:22
“It is He who reveals the deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.”

Although it may unsettle us, it tells us something that we all need to know. God knows us and yet He still cares. Think about how important that is.

While I was a student in seminary, I once had a talk with a woman who told me that she hadn’t gone to church since her son had been murdered. I was shocked by that revelation. She said she couldn’t love a God after He allowed that to happen. She couldn’t relate to a God like that. How could God help her after what she went through?

I told one of my professors about my encounter and I told him that I didn’t know what to say to her. His answer absolutely floored me and it changed the way I saw God forever. He said, “Who knows more about losing a Son unjustly than God? Of all the places to go for help in her time of suffering, God is the most uniquely qualified place to turn.”

Amazingly, it wasn’t God’s holiness or His sovereignty or even His power and might that made a difference for that woman. It was His incredible knowledge of everything she was experiencing. He understood her pain.

Hebrews 4:15-16
“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

That is what it means when we say that God knows us. There is mercy in it.

And grace.

And help.
