Psalms 1 - Introduction

Over the years, I have done many series on some of the greatest passages of the Bible. We’ve looked at The Ten Commandments, The 23rd Psalm, The Lord’s Prayer, The Beatitudes and a handful of others. There is so much in some of those great passages that it’s really enlightening to go through them with a fine-toothed comb.

There is a Psalm that I’ve always wanted to look at like that. It is Psalms 1. The title of that Psalm is “The Blessed Man.”

Psalm 1 was the first chapter of the Bible that I ever memorized. Something happens when you memorize a large portion of Scripture. The repetition of that passage engrains those thoughts into your mind and they begin to take on new meaning. They become clearer and you see them better. Those words slowly becomes a part of who you are.

Psalms 1 is important, not just because it is the very first chapter of the largest book of the Bible, but it also gives us a step by step process of how to live a life that God will bless. That sounds important to me. Don’t you agree?

Starting tomorrow, let’s start down that road together. It will take a while so don’t think that we’ll be on to something else in a few days. I want to milk this one for everything it’s got. It is a gold mine and we don’t want to miss out on anything it has to offer us.

Take some time to read it tonight and get yourself prepared for the journey. It’s only 6 verses but they sure are powerful.

Joshua 1:8
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success."
