REST - 20 Amazing Bible Words To Know: (ANAPAUO) Part 4

We’ve learned a lot about rest over the past few days, but the point that I really want to make about “anapauo” is this: God wants us to be at rest. That rest, however, is not something that we do. It is something that He gives to us. God gives us rest in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus tells us to come to Him with our heavy burdens for rest. He gives us rest from the hostility of the world. He gives us rest in our damaged separation with God. He gives us rest from the brokenness that is in our relationships, our jobs, our schools, our politics, our communities. The world around us is broken and dysfunctional and only God can heal that.

You see, Jesus IS our rest. True rest from the weariness that the world imposed on us can only come from Him. The author of Hebrews writes that we should, “… be diligent to enter that rest.” That’s how the peace of God comes upon His people. When the world has beaten you and mistreated you, God says to come and find “anapauo” in Him. No pain is too severe, no wound too deep, no burden too heavy. God can give you peace from that storm.

Revelation 6:9-11

"When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.”

Take God’s rest upon you. It’s where true peace and rest from the world are found.
