Seeking Spiritual Truth In A Physical World - Part 2

I see it all the time. In fact, I see it so much that I can tell people what they are looking for before they even ask.
There are men and women all around us who are looking for something but they don't know what it is. There is an emptiness in their hearts. Something is missing in their lives and they feel it.
What’s missing? What is it that haunts them? I know exactly what it is. It’s called the God-shaped Hole.
At some point in our lives, most of us begin to see that emptiness and we start trying to fill this hole with whatever we think will fit. Some people overwork themselves at their jobs, some turn to video games, books or music. Others volunteer at schools or places where they feel needed and useful or pour themselves into relationships or hobbies. We will try anything to diminish that uneasy feeling of emptiness, and it actually works ... for a while.
For some it becomes a dark pursuit. They turn to alcohol, drugs, pornography, sex or even violence and crime but that emptiness just won't go away.
They are all missing the mark. All of those things are substitutes. They are cheap imitations that only numb us to what we really need.
We need God. Our Maker has created us with an internal awareness of Him. We long for a relationship with our God but we are not very good at figuring this out. Our culture has taught us to ignore God so those longings are a mystery to us. As a result, we turn to worldly things to try to fill a spiritual need. It’s the spiritual version of trying to force a round peg into a square hole. It doesn't work.
Those of us who have found God know what you are looking for. It is God. He fits. It is a God-shaped hole that only God can fill.
God is waiting for you to discover Him so that He can give you His peace. Nothing else will work and you will never have that peace until your heart is His home.
Hebrews 11:6
"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."
