WALK - 20 Amazing Bible Words To Know: (peripateo - Part B)

In the Bible, when Jesus told people to follow Him, that was a literal expression. Following Jesus meant walking with Him wherever He went. Peripateo means "to tread around," When He got up to go somewhere, you walked where He walked. You followed Him.

The Apostle Paul was given the task of getting Christians to walk a godly walk. To him, that meant walking in an orderly fashion. How did he explain that to the churches? He told the Romans to walk in newness of life. To the Corinthians, he said to walk in the manner that God had called them and to walk by faith, not by sight.

The Galatians were to walk by the Spirit and by the rule of grace. The Ephesians were told to walk in their good works, in a worthy manner, not in futility but in love. Carefully, with wisdom.

The Philippians were encouraged to walk according to the pattern Paul left them. The Colossians and Thessalonians were told to walk in Him in such a way that pleased Him.

Every church that Paul wrote to was exhorted to walk in such a way that they were following Jesus, walking in His footsteps, doing what He did, going where He went and saying what He said. This is how the Christian walks with God. By following where He leads.

Do people see that in you? Do they watch you and say, “That person reminds me of Jesus?” That is the goal.

Remember how Jesus raised the little girl from the dead? People knew Jesus was real when they saw her walking. Sometimes we forget that we, too, were dead in - our trespasses and sins. Read Ephesians 2. That’s what our walk is all about. Our walk is the evidence that Jesus has given us a new life.

Micah 6:8
“And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
