When Times Get Difficult

One of the things about life on this earth is that as long as you are alive, you will have struggles of some sort.

We all struggle with something. Your struggle may be different than mine, but we all face trials. They can be spiritual, physical, emotional, financial, work-related, personal, or any number of things. You could make quite a list.

The Bible has some unique advice to those who struggle. The Bible says to rejoice and be happy that things are tough. Yes, you read that right. Be thankful for the hard times you are facing. Look at this verse from James:

James 1:2
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials."

Why would James say that? Joy in the midst of our toughest times? James goes on to explain that it is these tough times that test our character and draw us closer to God. You see, while we are wrestling with difficulties, there is a process taking place that brings about character-building and dependence on God. When things get too hard for us, we find that we need to turn to God for help. In return, He lifts us up and helps us through our struggles and we come through them tougher and better than before; closer than ever to God.

There is the joy that James wrote about. So, the next time you find yourself facing a difficult circumstance, pray to God and lean on Him. Christians call it “pressing in.” He will get you through it. Even though things seem bleak at the time, His promise is just around the corner.

James 1:12
"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."
