Why Do We Suffer? Part 5

Why Do We Suffer? Part 5

We live in a world in which there is a real and discernible spiritual war taking place. I have found that we are prone to two errors in our thinking about this warfare between good and evil. The first error is that we sometimes think that the evil one is lurking around every corner trying to trip us up at every turn. Every time something doesn’t work out right or we have a setback, we blame the devil.

We know that there is an enemy of the godly who is trying to destroy us. The Bible clearly teaches this.

John 10:10
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”

1 Peter 5:8
“…be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

We know the devil and his demons are out there and they are trying to derail us. But we also have to take responsibility for what is wrong in our lives. Sometimes the bad in our lives is because of the choices we make. Sometimes it’s just our own sinful nature getting the best of us; our humanness taking us down that wrong path. Sometimes, we just come up short.

James 1:14-1
