WISDOM - 20 Amazing Bible Words To Know: (SOPHIA) Part 2

Wisdom is not just knowledge. Knowing ABOUT something is not the same as knowing it. There is a difference in depth and perspective. That difference is what we would call wisdom.

Wisdom is the ultimate goal of knowledge. Knowledge, by itself, is empty, the means to an end. You can know a lot of stuff but if you don’t know how to apply that knowledge, you are just full of data and information. That is never enough.

My favorite illustration of the difference between knowledge and wisdom is that knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it into a fruit salad.

To the Greek world “Sophia” is both philosophical and practical. There is an intellectual aspect to it but it also has a functional element. Knowledge thinks while wisdom does.

The Bible tells us that there are two types of wisdom at work around us. You and I have experienced both of them. They are the wisdom of the world and the Wisdom of God. Tomorrow, we’ll look at these two types of wisdom that Christians have struggled with for centuries and we will learn how to get true wisdom.
