WORD - 20 Amazing Bible Words To Know: (logos - Part D)

This is the fourth day that we have talked about this one word. Isn’t that a bit much? Does the word “Logos” really deserve that much attention? Let’s look at how God sees that question. Logos, or Word, is described in these terms in the Bible:

  1. It is the name of His Son.

  2. It is what we call His law.

  3. It is what He calls His own power.

  4. It was the agent of creation.

  5. It is what maintains and upholds creation.

  6. It is His final authority for the church.

  7. It is living and active and knows the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

  8. It is able to save our souls.

  9. It is the revelation of all that God wants us to know about Him.

It sounds pretty important, doesn’t it? One might even say that logos emerges as the most important word in the Bible.

Wait a minute. More important than love? Faith? Hope? Redemption? Dwight Moody once wrote this:

“When I prayed that revival would come to Chicago, I thought that faith was going to come down and strike me like lightning, but faith did not seem to come. One day, I read in Romans 10:17 that faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Before, I had closed my Bible and prayed for faith. Now, I opened my Bible and began to study and faith has been growing ever since.”

God loves His Word and He has created us with a desire for it that can only be filled by hearing and reading it. This is why the reading of the Word is so important to the church.

1 Timothy 4:13
“Give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.”

The Word of God MUST be central to what the church does. That is how faith grows. The Reformers used to cry out sola scriptura: “Scripture alone.” The Word of God is our sole authority in all things regarding God.

1 Timothy 6:3-4a
“If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing.”

The Christian walk is all about God’s Word.
